DIY: Ribbon Charm Bracelet
While browsing a Women’s World magazine, I found this fun Do-it-yourself project and thought it would be a great idea to share it. I have yet to try it out myself, but it looks easy and makes a great “I’m bored” activity…
Modern ribbon charm bracelets are a new trend that you may have seen celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Naomi Watts sportin’ on their wrists. Yet while their designers versions cost hundreds (the bracelet pictured left retails for $110 at Saks Fifth Avenue), you can make your own with just a few dollars and a little time. Let’s get crafty up in here!
1. If your charm doesn’t have a ring at the top, you’ll have to add a jump ring (get 9mm size). To do, open it by twisting the wire ends, one forward, the other back. Slip on the charm, then twist the ends together again.
2. Slide your largest charm onto 1 yd. of soft 1 1/2″ ribbon (if it comes with wire edges, pull out the wires first). To do, roll the ribbon’s end into a tube small enough to pass through the ring easily.
3. Move the charm to the center of your ribbon then tie a knot on each side. Slide additional charms at each side, if desired.
4. Trim ribbon ends into rounded points and paint with colorless nail polish to prevent fraying. Twist the ribbon into a “rope,” wrap three times and tie the ends.
To make your bracelet more personal, chose a charm that has a special meaning to you. Find a huge selection of inexpensive charms at craft stores.
