Trends I love: Maxi Dress

The maxi dress is certainly no new trend, celebrities love the long flowing dresses and it’s a favorite among stars such as Nicole Richie, Vanessa Hudgens, and many more. It’s also a favorite among pregnant women, probably for it’s slimming ability.

Even though the dress has been quite popular for awhile, it didn’t quite catch my eye until this season. I think with the help of all the pretty and funky prints, bright colors, bold accessories and shoes, the maxi dress is looking better than ever. Yet, I still find myself maxi-less, but I will find the perfect one.

You have to be very choosy when picking out the perfect maxi dress. The shape and cut is very important, try a dress that fits your body the right way, or you’ll look like your wearing a garbage bag.
Women with large breast should try a halter dress with thick straps to offer support. And, if you think your figure isn’t right for the dress, like, you think you’re too big - think again. Try a solid-colored dress rather than a print that will make you appear larger than you are.

One thing I really love about the maxi dress is it can be dressed up by adding accessories. Wear it at the beach during the day, then a hot date by night. Again, it also really depends on the dress and the shoes you wear with it - gladiator sandals, wedges, flip flops, and even the right heels can look good with a maxi dress. If you’re petite like me I think the heels would be a good idea.

A few different styles…

Left - Printed Crinkle Dress from Bebe, $159.
I love the elegant yet sexy appeal the Bebe dress has to it. Plus the combination of the little flower designs and black solid color is very flattering. I love the neckline.

Middle - Knit Halter Maxi Dress from Express, $69.99.
Features a fun floral print that I love. I can totally picture myself strolling down the beach in this dress with a tote in hand.

Right - Mossimo Supply Co. Long V-Neck Braided Halter Dress from Target, $22.99.
A solid bright yellow dress keeps it simple yet gets you noticed. Would look great on someone with a nice summer tan. This dress is a perfect example of one that can be dressed up or down.

If you’re also looking for a maxi dress Wet Seal just got a few new styles in, and Victoria’s Secret has a lot on sale. They’re all really pretty too.

What do you think of the maxi dress? Hate it or love it?

Ooo I have one of those. I didn’t know it was a “maxi dress”. I love em :)

I need one TOO! I’ll probably end up getting one at Ross. The usually have a great selection of all dress styles for $20 and under. I wish I had known about them back when I had proms and ish to go to.

Also, with prints, even big prints can look good on bigger girls. Small prints can make you appear bigger though. I’m short, so that’s my only worry regarding the dress. I need like big wedge sandals or something. :/

I didn’t know those dresses were called Maxi dresses. Anyways, I’m loving the one on the left from Bebe. It’s quite gorgeous. Funky prints and bold colors have been appearing quite a lot this season although I’m not a huge fan of those prints.

I like the yellow one. I’m not much of a dress person, I always feel odd in them, but if I were to choose one, I’d wear the yellow. Not a fan of prints though, they remind me of housewives sitting around and drinking tea.

The dress is really cute. I’m short so I don’t like to wear long dresses much.

Oh, the code for the stats on my sidebar is made up of a few different things. The main stats are General Stats.

I love the maxi dress because to me at least it looks like you can wear it as a casual dress and also it can be worn as a classier more sophisticated dress. Very nice.

Ooh my wedding dress is going to be something similiar to a maxi dress. I have one already and want more! They are so comfy too especially in summer. I wear flip flops, heeled sandals and sometimes flats with my dress. I will try out the gladiator sandals ive been trying to find a good pair.

Oh those are too cute! I have chubby legs though, my chubby thighs don’t bug me so much, but my calves are what bugs me! However, I can see those cover your calves! Maybe I could give it a shot? :D

I think it is cute… I like the style but I am not a fan of the prints, I prefer the solid colours myself. But I like more plain clothes lol.

I’ve seen those around and they’re cute. I don’t think it wouldn’t look good on me though because I have wide hips! =S

The mormon book is supremely weird, but also kind of sad :/

I love maxi dresses - especially the ones with abstract flower prints. They don’t work as well in Philly as they do in Clearwater though since there’s no beach nearby :)

I like them but I don’t think I’ll ever wear one out in the day to go shopping. LOL! I’ll reserve them for fancy dates and gatherings. LOL!

I love those dresses too, and I have one, but I didn’t know that was what they were called :P
I think my favourite one in the pictures is the green and brown and white one in the first left aligned pic.
